Many thanks to Rabbi Nancy and her family for coming down to celebrate with us and lead us in our annual Hanukkah service! We had quite a turn out and everyone really seemed to have a good time.  Many thanks to Team Latke who made what I think was the best batch of latkes ever!  And many thanks to everyone for bring covered dish items so that we could share in a dinner together.  It was just a delightful evening and, if you were not able to join us, you missed a beautiful service and lots of good food…be sure and put it on your calendar for next year now!  (The first night of Hanukkah for 2018 is December2!)

Security Equipment

As most of you are aware, a little over a year ago, exterior cameras were installed for the purpose of increased security both during services and when the building is vacant. This equipment, when properly set, can record activities in up to three locations outside the building.  However, when the equipment is “played with,” these recording options can be turned off.  This seems to have happened on a number of occasions, despite the fact that there is a note with the monitor that clearly asks that no one touch the equipment.  Please honor the request and do NOT touch the monitor or any other parts of the equiment.  If the equipment is not running properly, it is of no value to us when incidents occur.

Nomination for 2018 Officers and Board Have Been Posted

It’s that time of year when a committee gets together to nominate Officers and Directors for the Temple Board. Much thanks to this year’s committee for submitting this proposed slate of officers (these nominations have been posted on the bulletin board at the Temple and I will share them in my letter each of the next couple of weeks):

  • President – Ken Wolf
  • Vice President – Sybil Abroms
  • Secretary – Eugene (Buddy) Bernstein
  • Treasurer – Marty Abroms
  • Director (completing the 2nd year of a 2-year term) – Nancy Opler
  • Director (for a 2 year term) – Alvin Rosenbaum
  • Past President – Traci Welch

The posting also notes that Members are reminded of Article III, Section 1,B.(2) of the Temple Bylaws:

For the purpose of adding names to those selected by the nominating committee, nominations will remain open until fourteen days prior to the Annual Meeting date (now scheduled for Sunday, January 21, 2018 – see below) during which time, any additonal nominations for Officers and members of the Board of Directors may be offered in writing to the President by no fewer than three Members.

Annual Congretional Meeting will be January 21

As is noted, above, the date for our annual congregational meeting has been set for Sunday, Janauray 21 at 10:00am. This is the best time for you to share your ideas for the future of our Temple and it is important for you to be there to vote on a proposed amendment to the Constitution as well as the proposed slate of officers.  As always, we will hold the meeting in the Temple sancuary and I hope that everyone will do their best to join us!

There is Still Time to Donate in 2017!

Please think of the Temple as you consider making additional year-end charitable donations. Celebrate a loved one, mark a simcha, commemorate a Yarhzeit or other lifecycle event in happiness or in sorrow, through a donation to Temple B’nai Israel.  Also, please remember Temple B’nai Israel in your will and estate plans. Such donations are an important way to ensure that the Temple will continue to serve our Jewish community with weekly services, Torah study, Jewish programming and social events.  The form for making donations is available on our Website or in paper format in the foyer at the Temple.

I hope everyone has a fabulous week and I will see you Friday night.

Shalom!

Traci Welch
