It was so lovely to see so many people at our Rosh Hashanah services last week! Rabbi Nancy, supported by several our members, led us through delightful Erev Rosh Hashanah and Rosh Hashanah morning services.  Thanks to Rabbi Nancy for so seamlessly organizing the service and assigning reading parts for so many of us!  It was such a nice way to kick-off our New Year!  As we now move on to our Yom Kippur services, I wish everyone an easy fast and I look forward to sharing our Break-the-Fast with you all!

High Holidays at the Temple

    • Rosh Hashanah – Many thanks to Howard Zeff and all the volunteers who assisted in getting the Temple ready for services last week. Thanks, too to all those that assisting in getting the O’neg organized and, especially to those that made sure everything was picked up and cleaned up after the O’neg. Thanks to congregants who brought sweets to share – we had quite the smorgasbord!
    • Cemetery Memorial Service – The service was held on Sunday, September 24 at the Jewish Cemetery in Sheffield. Howard Zeff led the service, assisted by Jeff Schneider, Alvin Rosenbaum and Stan Goldstein. According to Howard, the short service was well attended and was a nice event. Thanks to all who participated!
    • Yom Kippur – More volunteers will be needed to help set-up for and clean-up after the Break-the-Fast this Saturday. Please don’t eat and run! The more that help, the quicker it gets done and everyone can go home. Contact Howard Zeff with questions. Please remember, everyone is asked to please bring a covered dish for the Break-the-Fast following services on Saturday.
    • Memorial Service Envelopes – Please be sure to return your completed Yom Kippur memorial envelope to Rabbi Nancy or Marty Abroms no later than noon on Yom Kippur Day so they can be organized in time for the afternoon Memorial Service.

Please fill your bag(s) with non-perishable food items and bring it with you this Friday night. Sea Scout Troop of the Shoals

A Sea Scout troop is being organized for the Shoals area. This group is for boys and girls, ages 14-20, who would like to learn more about boating.  The goal of the group is to teach young people about seamanship, boat handling, and boat safety along with traditional Scout values…all while having fun!  If you know of anyone that might be interested, please let them know that there will be a meeting this Thursday night, September 28, at 6:00pm.  The meeting will be held at Riverfront Park in Sheffield (100 Riverfront Drive).  If you have questions, or would like more details, please contact Dr. Foster Eich at 256-767-2003.

 Donations

As this year seems to be swiftly passing by, please remember our Temple when you make your annual charitable donation choices!   Celebrate a loved one, mark a simcha, commemorate a Yarhzeit or other lifecycle event in happiness or in sorrow, through a donation to Temple B’nai Israel.  Also, please remember Temple B’nai Israel in your will and estate plans. Such donations are an important way to ensure that the Temple will continue to serve our Jewish community with weekly services, Torah study, Jewish programming and social events.  The form for making donations is available in the foyer at the Temple and will soon be available via our website.
