Hello and I hope this finds everyone having a wonderful week thus far!
Each of the last few weeks I have included a reminder in my message that we would be celebrating Erwin Coleman’s 96th birthday this Friday, June 10…and so we are! However, I need to bring one scheduling change to your attention – we have decided that services will need to start at 6:00pm rather than 6:30pm in order to ensure a full Shabbat service can be completed. Rabbi Nancy is well aware that it might be a challenge for us to all arrive by that time and, therefore, she wanted me to express to you that it is ok for you to get there when you can but that she will get started at 6:00 in order to ensure services are over by (or before) 7:00pm. So…to recap:
- This Friday, June 10th, we will be celebrating Erwin Coleman’s 96th birthday after our services
- Services will begin an hour earlier than usual – 6:00pm
- The celebration will begin about 7:00pm
- Please bring a bottle of wine and me kind of finger-food to share
- You don’t want to miss it!
Don’t let all the celebrating cause you to forget that Saturday, June 18 is our day to provide desserts for the Soup Kitchen! Please plan to bring homemade (a favorite) or store-bought dessert items to the Temple no later than 9:30am, Saturday, June 18. If you prefer, you can also make a financial donation that will be used to purchase any additional desserts needed. (Make all checks payable to Temple B’nai Israel.)
The following dates have been set as the Fridays that Rabbi Nancy will be leading our services and they have also been added to the calendar on our Website:
- June 10 and 17
- July 8 and 22
- August 12 and 26
Everyone is also invited to attend the weekly Torah Study group that meets each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.
Around town…Have you visited the Florence/Lauderdale Tourism Visitors Center yet? If not, you might want to pop in and take a look! Not only is it a great place to help your out-of-town guests to get familiar with the plethora of things to do and see in the area but you might learn a thing or two yourself! In addition, you might be interested to see the Wright-Rosenbaum House exhibit complete with a model of the home! While the address of the Center is 200 Jim Spain Drive, you might know it better as McFarland Park – up the hill on your right as you enter the property. Also, how about the new Gold Record Room in the SunTrust building at 201 South Court Street? Our own Marty Abroms has been instrumental in making this “salute to the rich musical history of the Shoals” come alive! This past Friday there was a Grand Opening for the space (on the ground floor of the building) and it is now open to the public Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. Stop in and take a look! Our congregation might be small but we continue to be a vital part of revitalizing the Shoals community!
If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you at our 6:00pm service this Friday!
Shalom!
Traci Welch
