Hello everyone!
The Social Committee and a number of volunteers met on Tuesday of last week to make plans for ensuring the success of our Rummage Sale in August. Here are some of the decisions that were made and where volunteers are needed:
- This weekend – Volunteers are needed to help identify items at the Temple that are appropriate for the Rummage Sale – Saturday, July 16 1pm-6pm AND Sunday, July 17 10am-3pm
- Donations – Donations will be accepted at the Temple the weekends of August 6-7 and August 13-14 (timeline yet to be determined)
- Preparation of donated items – Volunteers are needed to help separate and check pricing on the items (more to come on dates and times)
- Sale Dates expanded – the sale will be held for TWO days – Friday, August 19 6am-3pm AND Saturday, August 20 6am-2pm
Points to keep in mind:
- Suggested types of items to donate: household items from the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom; games, books, lawn equipment, electric or hand tools, CDs, DVDs, movies, in-door and out-door furniture, working electronics. Please ensure all items are in good, working condition!
- Items we ask you NOT to bring – clothing, old style TVs and computers
- Everyone is asked to place prices on all items before bringing them to the Temple on the donation days (Price them to SALE!)
Please support our Rummage Sale!!!
Keep up with what is going on at the Temple by checking the Website calendar frequently! Check out the Calendar page at: www.florencetemple.org. |
Rabbi Nancy will be here each of the next two Fridays. The weeks that she is not in town, the Ritual Committee will ensure services are led by a member of the congregation and I will announce who that will be as soon as I am informed. Please plan to join us every week! The dates that Rabbi Nancy will be leading our services in July and August are:
- July 15 and 22
- August 12 and 26
As always, everyone is also invited and encouraged to attend the weekly Torah Study group that meets each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.
Reminder items:
- We are responsible for desserts at the Soup Kitchen this Saturday, July 16th. Please plan to bring homemade (a favorite) or store-bought dessert items to the Temple no later than 9:30am, Saturday, July 16. If you prefer, you can also make a financial donation that will be used to purchase any additional desserts needed. (Make all checks payable to Temple B’nai Israel.)
- Please mark your calendar for Saturday, July 23 and get ready to have some fun when the Temple hosts a WC Handy Festival event called the Ten Gallon Yarmulke…featuring our very own Rabbi Nancy Tunick and her talented family! The Social Committee is working on all the specifics related to hosting the event – and volunteers will be needed – so, stay tuned for more details to come. In the meantime, mark it on your calendar and plan to be there!
- As is noted, above, the Temple Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday, August 19th and Saturday, August 20th. Clean out those closets and bring it in for the big sale!
And, finally, I don’t feel right sharing this note without at least mentioning the events that have been in the forefront of the news for the last several day. It’s been another sad week for our country. And, while I will defer to the Rabbi on words of wisdom and forgiveness around all of this. It saddens me to see so much division within the country at a time when we so desperately need unity. I know we all have our own opinions on what should and should not be done so I simply want to say that I am praying for all of us to find a way to love each other, accept each other and live in peace and harmony together.
If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
I hope to see you all at services this Friday and, until then, I hope you have a wonderful week!
Shalom!
Traci Welch
