Hello everyone!
We have an exciting weekend coming up! This Saturday, at 2pm, we host our annual WC Handy Festival event at the Temple – this year called Ten Gallon Yarmulke! We are so lucky that the musical Tunick/Whitehead Family is willing to share their talent with the Shoals community on behalf of our Temple! Please come join us in supporting them, the Temple and the Festival, in general!
MANY THANKS to all those that went the extra mile and came out to help with the Temple “sweep” this past weekend! A HUGE amount of work got done that not only uncovered items for the Rummage Sale but also opened up a lot of storage space throughout the building. To say this was desperately needed is an understatement! Thank you to The Social Committee Chairs – Howard Zeff and Stephanie Coleman – for organizing and “supervising” this activity! I know there were several people that helped – some on Saturday, some on Sunday and some on both days – so I am not going to try and list everyone here out of a fear of missing someone…But please know how much your time and efforts are truly appreciated! Additional dates to keep in mind in preparation for the Rummage Sale are:
- Donations – Donations will be accepted at the Temple the weekends of August 6-7 and August 13-14 (timeline yet to be determined)
- Preparation of donated items – Volunteers are needed to help separate and check pricing on the items (more to come on dates and times)
- Sale Dates expanded – the sale will be held for TWO days – Friday, August 19 6am-3pm AND Saturday, August 20 6am-2pm
And information on what to donate (or not):
- Suggested types of items to donate: household items from the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom; games, books, lawn equipment, electric or hand tools, CDs, DVDs, movies, in-door and out-door furniture, working electronics. Please ensure all items are in good, working condition!
- Items we ask you NOT to bring – clothing, old style TVs and computers
- Everyone is asked to place prices on all items before bringing them to the Temple on the donation days (Price them to SALE!)
Please support our Rummage Sale!!!
Temple Cards
If you weren’t able to join us for services this past Friday, you missed the announcement that we now have Temple Cards that can be mailed out on your behalf. Thanks to Barbara Sherr for getting note cards printed up and for being willing to take requests from our members (or friends). All you have to do is contact Barbara and she will write a personal note in the card, address it and put it in the mail. This is a win-win opportunity as it helps all of us out when we need to send a card and it also serves as a fund raiser for the Temple as a minimum donation of $5.00 per card is requested. There was a question as to whether members could send money in advance and then just call/email and ask for a card to be sent out and, while that is absolutely doable, Barbara does ask that you not send more than $25 at a time in order to make it a manageable process for her. Check the Temple Directory for her contact information.
Services and Torah Study:
Did you know that Upcoming Events are listed on the Home page of our Website? Check out the Home page at: www.florencetemple.org. |
Rabbi Nancy will be here again this Fridays. The weeks that she is not in town, the Ritual Committee will ensure services are led by a member of the congregation and I will announce who that will be as soon as I am informed. Please plan to join us every week! The dates that Rabbi Nancy will be leading our services in July and August are:
- July 22
- August 12 and 26
As always, everyone is also invited and encouraged to attend the weekly Torah Study group that meets each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.
Reminder items:
- This Saturday, July 23 the Temple hosts a WC Handy Festival event called the Ten Gallon Yarmulke…featuring our very own Rabbi Nancy Tunick and her talented family!
- The next Temple Board meeting will be held on Sunday, July 31 at 10am, at the Temple. All Temple members are welcome to attend.
- Temple Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday, August 19th and Saturday, August 20th. Clean out those closets and bring it in for the big sale!
If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
I hope to see you all at services this Friday and, until then, I hope you have a wonderful week!
Shalom!
Traci Welch
