Hello everyone!
Well, if you were not able to attend our WC Handy Festival event, Ten Gallon Yarmulke, you missed a fun time! Many thanks to the Tunick/Whitehead family for all the time and effort that went into preparing and performing! While I, personally, loved all of it, I must say that Sarah’s contributions were delightful – she is so talented! And, if you haven’t heard Scott’s Pig Latin song, you need to ask him to sing it for you the next time you see him! It was a fun, fun, and well-attended event and we are so lucky that our Rabbi and her family are willing to share their talents with us and the Shoals community!
The Social Committee is continuing to work to get us ready for the big Temple Rummage Sale on August 19 and 20! The important dates for you to be aware of, regarding that event are as follows:
- Donations – Donations will be accepted at the Temple the weekends of August 6-7 (from 1-3 each day) and, again, on August 13-14 (timeline yet to be determined)
- Preparation of donated items – Volunteers are needed to help separate and check pricing on the items (more to come on dates and times)
- Sale Dates – the sale will be held for TWO days – Friday, August 19 6am-3pm AND Saturday, August 20 6am-2pm
Here is some information on what to donate (or not):
- Suggested types of items to donate: household items from the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom; games, books, lawn equipment, electric or hand tools, CDs, DVDs, movies, in-door and out-door furniture, working electronics. Please ensure all items are in good, working condition!
- Items we ask you NOT to bring – clothing, old style TVs and computers
- Everyone is asked to place prices on all items before bringing them to the Temple on the donation days (Price them to SALE!)
Please support our Rummage Sale with both contributions and your volunteer time!!!
Services and Torah Study:
Who can tell me which holidays we are celebrating in the pictures on our Website? Check out the About page at: www.florencetemple.org. |
Because the Rummage Sale is both Friday and Saturday (August 19 and 20), a decision has been made to cancel services that Friday eveing (August 19). I will update the calendar accordingly but please be sure that others that might have planned to attend are made aware of this change! Rabbi Nancy will be back in August, see the dates below, and I should have dates for Septemeber and October (including the High Holidays schedule) to publish soon. The weeks that she is not in town, the Ritual Committee will ensure services are led by a member of the congregation and I will announce who that will be as soon as I have confirmation. Please plan to join us every week! The dates that Rabbi Nancy will be leading our services in August are:
- August 12 and 26
Torah Study will also need to be held in an alternate location both the week prior to and the week of our Rummage Sale. Therefore, it has been determined that the group will meet at the Florence Public Library on Saturday, August 13 AND Saturday, August 20. The meetings will held in the Genealogy Room, at the usual time of 9:30am. It has been confirmed that the coffee shop WILL be open for business at that time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the flexibility of our study leader, Dick Peshkin.
Reminder items:
- The next Temple Board meeting will be held on Sunday, July 31 at 10am, at the Temple. All Temple members are welcome to attend.
- Drop off items for the Temple Rummage Sale on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7 from 1-3. Clean out those closets and bring all PRICED items to the Temple for the big sale!
- Temple Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday, August 19th and Saturday, August 20th.
- We now have Temple Cards that can be mailed out on your behalf. All you have to do is contact Barbara Sherr and she will write a personal note in the card, address it and put it in the mail. Each card is $5.00 so this is a win-win opportunity as it helps all of us out when we need to send a card and it also serves as a fund raiser for the Temple. Check the Temple Directory for her contact information. (Or you can send me a note and I will be happy to forward her contact information to you.)
If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
I will not be able to attend services this week so I regret that I will miss seeing everyone. I plan to be back on the 5th, though. Until then, I wish you all well and I hope you have a wonderful couple of weeks!
Shalom!
Traci Welch
