Hello all!
As you should be well-aware by this time, the Temple Rummage Sale is scheduled for August 19 (6am-3pm) and 20 (6am-2pm). The good news is that it should be a DOOZY as we have LOTS of fabulous items to sell thanks to members and non-members, alike! Please tell your friends and family to come by and shop – there is something for just about everyone! I want to echo a message sent out by Howard Zeff earlier today – “THANK YOU” to all who have donated items and, especially, to all who have volunteered their time thus far (still more volunteers needed)! In case you did not see Howard’s note, this is what he shared:
“First I want to thank everyone who has helped and contributed to the Temple’s upcoming Yard Sale…We have had many people step up to give of their time and LOTS of effort in this continuing process. Last weekend we had several good donations. We were able to separate, price what was needed, and begin organizing for the sale.
We plan on accepting donations again this weekend August 13 and 14 between 10am and noon each day. At this time we need to start better controlling what we are getting because we have a lot now and don’t want it to get out of control. If you still plan on making a contribution, please [let me] know what you have and when you plan to bring it next weekend, Saturday or Sunday. I know of a couple of people who have furniture that needs to be picked-up and we need to try and arrange this as well. So if you have furniture, please let me know this. If you can get it to the Temple yourself, that would be great. We really don’t need it before the sale begins due to the lack of storage space.
Also, please look again at your calendars for the sale days Friday August 19 and Saturday August 20, we need more people to be there to help run the sale, we have not had many volunteer at this time…Thanks again for everyone what has helped with this endeavor….Howard”
So, to recap:
- Donations – Will be accepted at the Temple this weekend, August 13-14 (10am-noon each day) Note> The committee asks that you please make every effort to bring your donations during one of these designated dates/times, however, if none of these dates work for you, please reach out to Howard Zeff to discuss other options.
- Preparation of donated items – Volunteers are needed to help separate and check pricing on the items (August 15-18, specific times yet to be determined)
- Volunteer Needed for the two days of the sale! Please let Howard know if you can work all or any part of the designated dates/times (See dates and time noted, above)

Please support our Rummage Sale with both contributions and your volunteer time!!!
Temple Board Meeting Notes
As I mentione last week, we had a busy Board meeting on the July 31. One thing that was discussed and (previously) approved by the Board is the particial sponsorship of a speaker that is coming to UNA, in September, for their Distinguished Event Series. Her name is Inge Auerbacher and she is a Holocaust Survivor. A sponsorship is both a benefit to the Shoals Community, as a whole, as well as the members of our Temple, as Ms Auerbacher will spend time with us on both Friday night, September 16 and Saturday, September 17. She will speak briefly after services on Friday night and will share a presentation with u sat 4:00pm on Saturday. Please mark your calendars now and plan to join us for these events that weekend! I will share more specifics soon but I wanted to be sure it’s on your “MUST DO LIST!” now!
Services and Torah Study:
Because the Rummage Sale is both Friday and Saturday (August 19 and 20), a decision has been made to cancel services that Friday eveing (August 19) The Website calendar as been updated to reflect/communicate this change but please be sure that others that might have planned to attend are made aware of this change! Rabbi Nancy will be back this Friday and, again, on the 26th. I should have dates for Septemeber and October (including the High Holidays schedule) to publish next week. The weeks that the Rabbi is not in town, the Ritual Committee will ensure services are led by a member of the congregation. Please plan to join us every week!
Note> We have 5 couples from Columbia, TN (members of The Temple in Nashville) coming for services and fellowship this Friday. Please make an effort to attend services to meet them and make them feel welcome!
Torah Study will be held in an alternate location this week and next due to the use of space for Rummage Sale donations. The group will meet at the Florence Public Library on Saturday, August 13 AND Saturday, August 20. The meetings will held in the Genealogy Room, at the usual time of 9:30am. It has been confirmed that the coffee shop WILL be open for business at that time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the flexibility of our study leader, Dick Peshkin.
Reminder items:
- We are responsible for desserts at the Soup Kitchen Saturday, August 20th. Please plan to bring homemade (a favorite) or store-bought dessert items to the Temple no later than 9:30am, Saturday, August 20th.
- Temple Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday, August 19th and Saturday, August 20th. Please drop donations off on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14 from 10am-noon.
- We now have Temple Cards that can be mailed out on your behalf. Contact Barbara Sherr for more details. Check the Temple Directory for her contact information.
- UNA Speaker, Inge Auerbacher, will join us for services Friday, September 16 and will present a slide show and talk on Saturday, September 17 at 4:00, at the Temple.
If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
I look forward to seeing everyone this Friday! Until then, I wish you all well and I hope you have a wonderful week!
Shalom!
