Hello and Happy New Year to you all! It was so nice to see the crowds for Rosh Hashanah services Sunday night and Monday morning!  And it was particularly nice to have so many congregants participating in the readings and the singing!  Many thanks to Rabbi Nancy for all the hard work getting the “parts” assigned!  And, thanks to everyone that brought sweets for our Oneg on Sunday night!  It truly helped us all have a sweet start to our new year!  But, you can’t leave the kitchen yet!  We will also have our break-the-fast at the close of services on Yom Kippur.  So, please plan to bring a food item to share for this too.

The balance of our holidays will keep us busy as, in addition to Shabbat services, we have the Cemetery Memorial Service this Sunday, October 9; Kol Nidre service on Tuesday night, October 11; Yom Kippur services Wednesday, October 12; and Sukkot services on Sunday, October 16! (See specific times, below.)  I hope you will plan to participate in all – or, at least, most – of these services!

Amidst our celebrating, we must also remember that the Temple needs ALL of us to do our part to ensure we have a place to worship and celebrate for years to come! So, just as I mentioned Sunday and Monday, it is critical that we all look into our hearts and determine now what we feel we would like to pledge to the Temple for the year 5777.  You should have already received a Membership Renewal form from Marty so please complete this and get it back to him right away so that we can budget appropriately for our 2017 expenditures.  Also please keep in mind that the amounts listed there are minimum amounts…pledges in excess of these minimums are greatly appreciated!

Fender Bender…Your Help is Needed

Apparently someone accidently hit the Goldstein’s car during/after services on Sunday night. The man that hit it, tried to find out whose car it was but was not successful at the time.  If it happened to be you or someone you know, can you please ask them to contact Stanley or Karen Goldstein.  Accidents happen!  Many thanks to this man for putting forth the effort to find the owner!

Community Giving

We are holding our Food Drive again this year.  Flyers were handed out at services on both Sunday and Monday to serve as reminders to everyone to please bring non-perishable food items on Tuesday night, October 11.  All items collected will be donated to the Help Center in Florence.  (A copy of the flyer is attached at the end of this message.)  I greatly appreciate the enthusiasm of our congregation and friends in supporting this important opportunity to give to those in need in our community!

  • There are services in addition to the High Holidays this time of year, see the attached schedule for more specifics on the Memorial Service at the Cemetery as well as Sukkot.

  • Please plan to bring a food item to share following the close of Yom Kippur services on Wednesday, October 12!
  • We now have Temple Cards that can be mailed out on your behalf. These are great for sending out well wishes for the High Holidays! Contact Barbara Sherr for more details. Check the Temple Directory for her contact information.

If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

I look forward to seeing everyone again this Friday – and throughout the holidays! May this year be a good and sweet year for us all!

Shalom!
