Hello everyone! This is another week where I don’t have a lot of news to share. I guess after we get through the holiday season things simply slow down a good bit…so, again, mainly just reminders…
Veterans Day Celebration
If you were not able to join us for services this past Friday, you missed a wonderful celebration of our Veterans! Buddy Bernstein did a fabulous job from writing many parts of the service, to printing up a beautiful program/prayer book, to organizing a choir, to leading the service! Michelle Bernstein, Stanley Goldstein and a friend of the Bernstein’s from Memphis made up our choir – accompanied by Eleanor Rohling. All of this was followed-up by a sweet-filled oneg during which time a video about the Wounded Warrior Project was projected for those who wanted to watch. It was a busy and beautiful night that was much appreciated by our Veterans in attendance!
Thanksgiving
Here is another reminder that we will NOT have services the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 25. Our hope is that everyone will find their own special way to celebrate the Sabbath with family and friends!
Officer Nominations
Please start considering now if you would like to serve on the Board or if you would like to ask the nominating committee to nominate anyone in particular for a specific role. Dick Peshkin will again serve as the Chair for this critical committee. Please be sure you get any nominations to him no later than December 31!
Chanukah Celebration
We will plan to have our community Chanukkah celebration at the Temple on Friday night, December 30. Rabbi Nancy will be with us to lead our service and help us celebrate. So, get those menorahs out, shine ‘em up and get ready for what promises to be another fun community celebration!
Annual Congregational Meeting
Sunday, January 29, 2017 has been selected as the date for the annual congregational meeting. This will be a critical meeting for all Members to attend as, in addition to annual Board elections, we will be voting on a proposal to replace the existing Constitution with a set of new Bylaws. The proposed Bylaws will be sent out to all Members in early December so that everyone will have ample time to read through them closely and provide feedback/ask questions/propose revisions/etc. Please add the meeting to your calendar now!
Services and Torah Study:
Our service schedule through December is as follows:
- November 18 – Rabbi Nancy (Include the Unveiling Service for Alan Mammen)
- November 25 – No Service
- December 2 – Rabbi Nancy
- December 9 – Rabbi Nancy
- December 16 – Ritual Committee
- December 23 – No Services
- December 30 – Shabbat and Chanukah Party – Rabbi Nancy
As always, congregants and members of the Shoals community, at large, are invited to attend the weekly Torah Study session which is held each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.
Reminder items:
- We will be responsible for the desserts for the Soup Kitchen this Saturday, November 19, so please plan to provide items for this worthy cause. Homemade items are especially appreciated! Please have items to the Temple no later than 9:30am on Saturday.
- No services on Friday, November 25 or Friday, December 23!
If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
I do not believe I will be able to make it to services this week so I hope you all have a wonderful Shabbat and I will look forward to seeing you on December 2!
Shalom!
