Hello all! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that you enjoyed the Super Bowl, the halftime show or the commercials – or all of the above! While I was disappointed in the commercials (I am always hoping for a lot of laughs), the game itself was quite exciting – no matter who you were pulling for! But, on to the business at hand…
Oneg Honoring Billy Isom
If you are not yet aware, Mr. Billy Isom recently donated two beautiful pieces of artwork to the Temple in dedication to the Abroms family and in memory of David Anshel. They are beautifu pieces and, if you have not seen them, you need to come to services and check them out! As a thank you to Mr. Isom, we have invited him and his wife to join us for services this Friday so that we may thank him, personally, and to celebrate his generosity with a special oneg. Please plan to join us this Friday and bring with you an item to share during our oneg!
Soup Kitchen
At our Annual Congregational Meeting we voted to continue to participate in the Soup Kitchen on a monthly basis, as we have for a few years now. My hope is that more of our members will participate in this each month as, so often, it seems we depend on the same people over and over to supply the desserts. Please think about those that benefit from these donations and make an effort to bring desserts to share….they can be store bought or made in your very own kitchen (the latter being a favorite)! Thanks to Fran and Bryan Jacobs as well as Ken and Shelley Wolf for always making sure we have enough to serve all those in need! Our remaining scheduled dessert dates this year are:
February 18, March 18, April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15,
August 19, September 16, October 21, November 18, and December 16
I will add these dates to our online calendar but please also note them on your personal calendar and plan to bring a dessert to share!
2017 Board Meeting Dates
I have proposed a schedule of dates to the 2017 Board and, while there are a couple of dates that need to be changed, we are set to meet every other month this year (vs the once quarterly meetings of prior years). One thing that we recognized last year is that it is very challenging to get much done when the Board only comes together once a quarter so we are going to give this more frequent meeting schedule a try in 2017. I will share the full schedule of dates with you when they are finalized but, for now, our first meeting will be Sunday, February 12 at 10:00am. As always, any member of the congregation that would like to attend the meeting is welcomed!
Have You Moved?
As I asked last week, if you have moved, changed your phone number or your email address since this time last year, please drop me a line and share your updated information with me. I want to be sure everyone is included in all important Temple communications!
Services and Torah Study
Our service schedule for remainder of the month of February is as follows:
- February 10 – Rabbi Nancy
- February 17 – Rabbi Nancy
- February 24 – Buddy Bernstein
As always, congregants and members of the Shoals community, at large, are invited to attend the weekly Torah Study session which is held each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.
Reminder items:
- Special Oneg this Friday – Services will be held on our usual schedule and an oneg, honoring Mr. Billy Isom will be held immediately following.
- Soup Kitchen donations – please plan to bring dessert items to donate to the Soup Kitchen on Saturday, February 18 – please have them at the Temple no later than 9:30 that morning (bringing them Friday night is fine too).
- Temple Note Cards – Please remember that we have note cards available that can be mailed out on your behalf for occasions when you would like to let someone know you are thinking of them. Contact Barbara Sherr for more details. Note> Based on conversations during the Annual Meeting, more detailed steps on how to best purchase/use of these cards will be forthcoming.
If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you this Friday night!
Shalom!
