Well, if you were not able to join us this past Friday for our Purim celebration, you missed out on a lot of fun! We had a really nice turn-out of our members and guests and everyone really enjoyed the service. Thanks to everyone who participated in our hamantaschen bake-off! Everyone did a wonderful job and the competition was tough! Sarah Tunick and “yours truly” ended up in a tie for the “favorites of the night” but all of it was yummy! I really appreciate the level of participation for the holiday!
Soup, Chili and Trivia Night
Our first social event of the year will be a soup, chili and trivia night and is scheduled for this coming Sunday, March 19, at 5:30. Please plan to bring something to contribute toward the meal. Of course, if you have a favorite soup, chili or stew, please whip up a batch and bring it along. But, not being a cook doesn’t get you off the hook…we will also need crackers, cornbread (or other tasty bread), drinks, desserts and ice. Cook up or pick up something and come join us for the evening.
By the way, don’t get scared off by the Trivia. This is a team event and is NOT Trivial Pursuit. Everyone will be able to contribute to their team. It will be lots of fun!
Community Seder Planning Underway
Plans for our community Seder are in the works…the venue has been changed back to the Temple so space will be limited again this year. Reservation forms went in the mail yesterday so you might get yours as soon as today! To ensure your seat(s), be sure and mail in your form, along with your payment, right away. The Seder will be held on Monday, April 10. Many thanks to Buddy Bernstein and his committee for all the work they are putting into this celebration!
PLEASE NOTE – we need help from the congregation with two things:
- We need another volunteer to help with making matzah balls. Stephanie Coleman and Karen Goldstein have volunteered already but we need one more person that can help get these made up. If you can help, please contact Karen Goldstein as soon as possible!
- We will be decorating the tables this year with a variety of Seder plates. If you have a family Seder plate or two that you are willing to allow us to use for the evening, please contact Buddy Bernstein and let him know. We will need these by Sunday, April 9 but will need to be aware of your commitment to bring one (or more) as soon as possible.
Soup Kitchen this Weekend
This is once again our weekend to provide desserts for the Soup Kitchen. Please plan on helping us meet the need by either baking up a batch of whatever dessert you would like to contribute or picking something up at the store and bringing it by the Temple no later than 9:30 this Saturday (March 18) morning. If you don’t have time to do either of these, finacial donations are also apprecited! Please let Fran Jacobs know if you will be making a donation.
Services and Torah Study
Our service schedule for the remainder of March is as follows:
- March 17 – Robert Adler
- March 24 – Rabbi Nancy
- March 31 – Buddy Bernstein
As always, congregants and members of the Shoals community, at large, are invited to attend the weekly Torah Study session which is held each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.
Reminder items:
- Soup Kitchen – Saturday, March 18 – please bring dessert items to the Temple no later than 9:30am this Saturday
- Soup, Chili and Trivia Night – Sunday evening, March 19 – Plan to bring something to donate toward our dinner and start brushing up on your trivia!
- Community Seder – Monday evening, April 10 – Reservation forms are in the mail!
If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you this Friday night!
Shalom!
