Hello everyone and welcome to 2017!  I expect it will take me about two months to actually date anything correctly but at least I do KNOW it’s 2017…Ha!  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and that your Hanukkah was full of family, friends and lots of happiness.  It sounds like I missed quite a fun event at the Temple on the 30th and I hate that I could not be there.  Many thanks to all who helped organize the event and to Rabbi Nancy in leading the celebration.  Loved the sweaters!  (If you have not seen a picture, I will try to get one added to the Website soon!)

As we are just starting 2017, there isn’t a lot of news and information to report. Although, because I have been out of town, I might have missed something.  If that is the case, please let me know and I will share with others as quickly as possible.

The biggest item on the agenda, for now, is the upcoming Annual Congregational Meeting and related votes that need to take place, as are noted below. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Officer Nominations

Officer nominations are now closed. Dick Peshkin and committee have identified a slate of officers for 2017 that will be voted on at the Annual Congregational Meeting on January 29.  The slate will be posted on the bulletin board at the Temple this Sunday and will be included in my message each week (starting next week) until the meeting is held.

Review of the Proposed Bylaws

I hope you have all taken the time to read over the proposed Bylaws that will be voted on at the Annual Meeting! The deadline for comments/questions was December 31 and, as far as I know, we have not received any feedback other than a few favorable comments.  At this point, the Bylaws will be voted on as they stand so please be prepared to vote on January 29.

Annual Congregational Meeting

If you haven’t already picked up on the date of the Annual Meeting…it will held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 10:00am, at the Temple.  In addition to the vote for Officers/Board and the Bylaws, we will also discuss the possibility of having the Temple designated as a National Historic Landmark and the responsibilities associated with that.  Please be sure this critical meeting is on your calendar!

Services and Torah Study:

Our service schedule through the end of January is as follows:

  • January 6 – Rabbi Nancy
  • January 13 – Buddy Bernstein
  • January 20 – Rabbi Nancy

As always, congregants and members of the Shoals community, at large, are invited to attend the weekly Torah Study session which is held each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.

Reminder items:

  • Soup Kitchen donations – Saturday, January 21, no later than 9:30am
  • Annual Congregational Meeting – Sunday, January 29, 10:00am

If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

I hope you all have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you this Friday evening!

Shalom!

Traci Welch
