The year is winding down and activities seem to be slowing down a bit as well so there really isn’t any new news this week. There are a few things that we all need to be reminded about, though, so I’ll share those reminders this week…But, before that, I would like to wish everyone a warm and love-filled Hanukkah – may the lights of the holiday fill your hearts with joy!

Soup Kitchen Weekend

This is our weekend to provide desserts for the Soup Kitchen. Please plan on helping us meet the need by either baking up a batch of whatever dessert you would like to contribute or picking something up at the store and bringing it by the Temple no later than 9:30 this Saturday morning (December 16).  If you don’t have time to do either of these, finacial donations are also apprecited!  Please let Fran Jacobs know if you will be bringing a dessert item to donate.

 Hanukkah Celebration Next Week

Join us for our annual Hanukkah celebrations next week, on Tuesday, December 19. I hope you will plan to join us as Rabbi Nancy leads us in our celebration, starting at 6:00pm that evening.  Following the service, we will share in a covered dish dinner so please be sure to bring a dish to share.  And don’t forget your menorah and candles (you will need 9) to light during the service.  And, as always, we are all anxiously awaiting the yummy latkes to be prepared by Team Latke!

Annual Congretional Meeting will be January 21

The date for our annual congregational meeting has been set for Sunday, Janauray 21 at 10:00am. This is the best time for you to share your ideas for the future of our Temple and it is important for you to be there to vote on a proposed amendment to the Constitution as well as the proposed slate of officers.  As always, we will hold the meeting in the Temple sancuary and I hope that everyone will do their best to join us!

 Donations Appreciated

Please think of the Temple as you consider making additional year-end charitable donations. Celebrate a loved one, mark a simcha, commemorate a Yarhzeit or other lifecycle event in happiness or in sorrow, through a donation to Temple B’nai Israel.  Also, please remember Temple B’nai Israel in your will and estate plans. Such donations are an important way to ensure that the Temple will continue to serve our Jewish community with weekly services, Torah study, Jewish programming and social events.  The form for making donations is available on our Website or in paper format in the foyer at the Temple.

 Service Schedule

The service schedule for December is:

  • December15 – Ken Wolf
  • December 19 (Tuesday) – Hanukkah – Rabbi Nancy
  • December 22 – Buddy Bernstein
  • December 29 – Robert Adler

As always, congregants and members of the Shoals community, at large, are invited to attend the weekly Torah Study session which is held each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.

 Reminder items:

  • Soup Kitchen – Saturday, December 16, please have donations at the Temple no later than 9:30am.
  • Hanukkah Celebration – Tuesday, December 19, 6:00pm – bring your menorah and a covered dish to share

If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

I hope everyone has a fabulous week and may the lights of Hanukkah shine brightly in your home! I will not be able to join you this Friday but I will look forward to seeing all of you on the 19th.

Shalom!
