Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a good week last week. Don and I had a safe trip to-and-from Vermont and, as nice as the weather was, there simply is “no place like home”! Anyway, it’s WC Handy week and that is always an exciting time of year for our area…as well as for the Temple! I hope you can all get out and enjoy some of the events this week and I hope the weather cools down a bit to make all of that a bit more pleasant!
2017 Handy at the Temple Event
So…speaking of the Handy Fest…I hope you are planning to join us for A Gig at the Gogue this coming Saturday, July 29, starting at 2:00pm! Rabbi Nancy and Scott Whitehead will share their musical talents with the community and you won’t want to miss it! This is always a crowd favorite so be sure and arrive in plenty of time to get a seat! In addition, if you can help with set-up prior to and/or clean up after the event, please contact Howard Zeff at [email protected] and let him know now.
“Fiddler on the Roof” is Coming to the Shoals
It’s not too late, there are still 2 more performances of “Fiddler on the Roof” this week…This much beloved musical is being performed at the Ritz Theatre in Sheffield on Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students.
Temple B’nai Israel Day at the Lake!
You and your family are invited to attend the upcoming Temple B’nai Israel Day at the Lake! Enjoy food, fun, friends, boating, sunning and swimming from 11:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the home of Michelle and Buddy Bernstein. The Bernsteins will provide dishware, water, and soft drinks, as well as boat rides and lifejackets. Please bring a covered dish (snack, meat, veggie, salad and/or dessert). If you wish, bring swim gear and a towel. For questions, please contact Michelle Bernstein or see the invitation on the bulletin board at the Temple.
Historic Plaque
By now all members should have received a letter sharing that the Board would like to move forward with the steps necessary to have a historic plaque placed on the Temple property. In that message, members are asked to please consider making a donation toward this project. I realized, after I had the letters mailed out, that the “due date” inserted during the draft and review process was not changed to accomidate the much later distribution of the letter. Needless to say, July 21 wasn’t feasible! Please make a note that the due date should have been amended to Friday, August 14. If you are interesting in seeing the Temple designated with a historic plaque, please consider making a donation to make it happen!
