Hello everyone! I hope you are weathering this cold snap well!  It looks like all you have to do is hold on for another day or two and the warmer temperatures will return.  I don’t know if that makes me happy or sad…I’m not a lover of the cold but it just seems odd to me to have 60 degree temperatures forecast for December.

Again, not a lot of news to share this week. I guess I should be happy about that…during a time of the year that seems so busy and full of “to-do” lists, it is kind of nice to have one part of my life slow down just a bit.  So…just a few reminders again.

I do want to put a big reminder out there that we do NOT have services this week. I don’t want anyone to show up to only find the doors locked and the lights out…We will resume the following week with our Hanukkah celebration!

Review of the Proposed Bylaws

By now you have had the proposed By-laws for a couple of weeks. I hope you are all reading over them.  Neither Buddy nor I have received any questions or comments so it does lead me to ask – and prod – if you are looking at them.  I do feel confident that the Board did a very good job drafting them but I just have a hard time believing no one has any questions…If you do have any questions/comments, we need these no later than December 31 to ensure they can be adequately addressed PRIOR to the Annual Meeting.  And, if for some reason you have not received the Bylaws, please let me know ASAP.

 Officer Nominations

The deadline for 2017 Board/Officer nominations is approaching quickly! If you are personally interested in serving or if you would like to nominate someone, please let Dick Peshkin know no later than December 31!

 Hanukkah Celebration

Our community Chanukah celebration is scheduled to be held at the Temple on Friday night, December 30. Rabbi Nancy will be with us to lead our service and help us celebrate.  Services will start at 6:00 that evening so please note that early start on your calendar! Plan to bring your menorah, candles and a dish to share.  I believe Team Latke is still looking for some help in the kitchen.  If you are good with a spatula…give Ken Wolf a call and let him know you are IN!

Annual Congregational Meeting

Please remember that the annual congreational meeting will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 10:00am, at the Temple.  This will be a critical meeting for all Members to attend as, in addition to annual Board elections, we will be voting on a proposal to replace the existing Constitution with a set of new Bylaws.  Please add the meeting to your calendar now!

 Services and Torah Study:

Our service schedule through the end of December is as follows:

  • December 23 – No Services
  • December 30 – Shabbat and Chanukah Party – Rabbi Nancy

As always, congregants and members of the Shoals community, at large, are invited to attend the weekly Torah Study session which is held each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.

 Reminder items:

  • No services on Friday, December 23
  • Hanukkah Party – Friday, December 30, 6:00pm
  • Officer nominations due to Dick Peshkin no later than December 31
  • Annual Congregational meeting – Sunday, January 29, 10:00am

If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know! And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

I will be out of town during our Hanukkah celebration and probably will not be able to send a message out next week so, I want to wish each and every one of you a Very Happy Hanukkah and may 2017 be a year of love and laughter for us all!

Shalom!

Traci Welch
