Well, I am keeping my fingers crossed that Saturday will be a sunny day and…that you will all be attending the social event at the lake! (See below for details.)  While most of us see the river on a daily basis, it is rare that we slow down long enough to actually get out there and ENJOY it so, here is your chance!  It’s hard to believe the summer is almost over so come on out and enjoy it while you can!!

Temple B’nai Israel Day at the Lake THIS SATURDAY

This event is on Rain or Shine – so come on out! You and your family are invited to attend the upcoming Temple B’nai Israel Day at the Lake next weekend!  Enjoy food, fun, friends, boating, sunning and swimming from 11:00am to 5:00pm this Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the home of Michelle and Buddy Bernstein.  The Bernsteins will provide dishware, water, and soft drinks, as well as boat rides and lifejackets.   Please bring a covered dish (snack, meat, veggie, salad and/or dessert).  If you wish, bring swim gear and a towel. For questions, please contact Michelle Bernstein.

 UNA Big Deal

In our continuing commitment to reach out to UNA students, faculty and staff, Temple B’nai Israel will participate, for the second year, in the UNA “Big Deal” Event on August 24 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on the UNA campus near the amphitheater.  This event gives UNA students an opportunity not only to become acquainted with student organizations, but also to visit tables from merchants and non-profit organizations from around North Alabama including our Temple.  Last year, we met students from all over Alabama and other states, most of whom were surprised to know that Florence is the home of a Jewish congregation!  We invite your participation by making donations of pre-packaged snacks (preferably heat-resistant and not “melty”!) or water bottles, and/or by helping with set-up, break-down and actually attending the event.  At least 2 people must attend our table during the event.  Set-up begins at 5:30 pm.  Please contact Wendy Roddy for more information,  or to volunteer for snacks, water or on-site help.

Historic Plaque

This is just another reminder that we are taking donations to help with the cost of the historic plaque that we hope to have installed outside the Temple. If you are interested in seeing the Temple designated with a historic plaque, please consider making a donation to help make it happen!  While the “due date” on the letter previously mailed to the homes of our members was incorrect, the request for donations was not!  Donations are currently being accepted through, Friday, August 11.  Please mail your donation to the Temple P.O. Box (Temple B’nai Israel, P.O. Box 632 Florence, AL 35631).  Please clearly mark your check as “historic plaque donation.”
