WOW! That is my reaction to the Gig at the Gogue (the Handy event at our Temple) – and I know it was the reaction of so many!  It was simply fabulous – such fun and what a treat to have Sarah and Lewis take such an active part this year!  If you were not able to make it, you missed a great event.  And talk about “sold out” – we ran out of chairs and had people standing in the back!  Like me, though, I believe they felt it was totally worth it!  Many, many thanks to Rabbi Nancy, Scott, Sarah and Lewis Whitehead for not only sharing their talent (and whit) but for the amount of time that obviously went into preparing for the event!!!  Many thanks also to Howard Zeff for keeping everything organized and making sure the building was set-up and ready to go!  I know a number of others brought water and other refreshments, helped clean-up afterwards, etc. but in fear of missing a name, I’m not going to try…just know your efforts were greatly appreciated!

Temple B’nai Israel Day at the Lake – Rain or Shine

Or as Howard put it last week…Sun or Shine. (Sorry, Howard, sometimes one just has to pick a bit.)  But, onto the details…You and your family are invited to attend the upcoming Temple B’nai Israel Day at the Lake next weekend!  Enjoy food, fun, friends, boating, sunning and swimming from 11:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the home of Michelle and Buddy Bernstein.  The Bernsteins will provide dishware, water, and soft drinks, as well as boat rides and lifejackets.   Please bring a covered dish (snack, meat, veggie, salad and/or dessert).  If you wish, bring swim gear and a towel. For questions, please contact Michelle Bernstein.  And, if it does rain, it’s still a GO!  (See invitation attached.)

Historic Plaque

If you are interested in seeing the Temple designated with a historic plaque, please consider making a donation to help make it happen! While the “due date” on the letter previously mailed to the homes of our members was incorrect, the request for donations was not!  Donations are currently being accepted through, Friday, August 11.  Please mail your donation to the Temple P.O. Box (Temple B’nai Israel, P.O. Box 632 Florence, AL 35631).  Please clearly mark your check as “historic plaque donation.”

 Temple Note Cards

Please remember we have note cards that can be sent out on your behalf! I peviously mailed out the donation request form that makes it easy for you to designate what your donation is for and easy for Kim (at Marty’s office) to determine who should get a notification, etc.  Copies of the form are also available at the Temple.  If you would like for me to send you another “soft” copy, just let me know.

I hope you all have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you this Friday!

Shalom!
